Weekend in Banff!
A weekend away with my good friend Jess was just what I needed to mentally recharge. Breathing in fresh mountain air does something for your mind and body.
Thursday: On the way to Banff we stopped in Revelstoke to do the pipe mountain coaster . It cost $25.00 We had such a laugh flying down the mountain on this coaster! After lunch and a gas fill, we drove straight to Canmore. Since everywhere in Banff was so expensive, we ended up booking a lodge in Canmore called Blackstone Mountain Lodge I am so glad we did! We got upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite, they have great customer service and Canmore is absolutely gorgeous!
Friday: We started our day at a trendy cafe in Canmore called Communitea Cafe
Such good coffee and really good vegan options for breakfast! Then we drove to Lake Louise. It's about a 50 minute scenic drive. You will have to buy a valid park pass each day to get into any of the Rocky Mountain Parks. We got parking close by Lake Louise (If parking lot full you have to park further away and a free shuttle brings you back) We chose a great weekend to go, as it was not crazy busy!
We did the hike up to Lake Agnes Tea House. Tip: BRING CASH if you want tea! Tea is $7.00 and its cash only. We only had $4.50 so we had to share a hot chocolate haha There was soup, sandwiches and banana bread for purchase as well.
The hike up was about an hour and had a few look out points, overlooking the stunning bright blue water of Lake Louise. Close to the top you come to a waterfall. You climb some stairs and you are at the tea house. The tea house was built in 1901 and started serving tea in 1905! Its situated on the shore of Lake Agnes, a beautiful lake against a gorgeous mountain backdrop.
Once we got back to the base, we were both ready to relax and enjoy a flight of beer at the Fairmont Lake Louise On our way back to Canmore we decided to stop at Morraine lake. I had seen many instagram posts on this lake and it was even more breathtaking in real life.
Saturday: Back to Communitea for breakfast! We decided to spend the morning driving around, since everywhere you look is so gorgeous! We found an exit for an easy hike we were told about called Grassy Lakes. At the top was a beautiful small lake and some waterfalls.
We then drove to Banff to walk around the town and go for lunch. We then went back to our hotel room for a hot bath and some champagne. We got ready and went to see if we can find some good music and a fun crowd. We found some good music at both The Tavern and The Drake. The Drake had a live band upstairs and music playing downstairs.
Sunday: We woke up not looking forward to the long drive home. However, we were looking forward to stopping at Peyto Lake. It is about an hour round trip heading the wrong direction from home but from what I had seen and heard, it was completely going to be worth it. We pulled into the parking lot and there was snow on the ground and was lightly starting to snow. Good day to be going home, -5 and weather was for sure getting worse! Peyto Lake view point is only a 10 minute walk from the parking lot. I found out once home had we kept walking a few minutes we could have taken pictures without a bunch of tourists! Keeping that in mind for next time! It was one of the most gorgeous lakes i've ever seen. The snow capped mountains, the most gorgeous blue lake in the shape of a wolf. All of it took my breath away.
If you've never been to Banff, put it on your travel list! I promise, you won't be disapointed!
