Working in the beauty industry, there is ever-changing products and trends happening on the daily. It is hard to choose which is worth trying for yourself and what trends you should skip all together. (Think Unicorn Eyeliner..or leopard spotted lips....just...why?)

Eyebrow Tattoing VS Microblading:

Eyebrow tattooing has been around for a long time the process is a continuous filling in of pigment into the skin. This procedure will create a solid eyebrow shape but the result is a very un natural looking brow. Microblading on the other hand is a semi-permanent cosmetic treatment using a small blade dipped in pigment to create hair-thin strokes that blend in with and enhance your natural eyebrows. Because each stroke is done by hand, the artist can create the perfect color, density, and brow shape for each individual client. It is a 2 step process. Sometimes even a third. They last 1-2 years before fading and possibly needing a touch up.

This was one trend I was excited (also a little nervous) to try! After seeing a few of my friends results with Jordana in Vancouver (check out her Instagram for amazing before and afters @jordanajane ) I was set on doing it and was entrusting her to make my brows perrrdy! I have been trained on brow shaping, waxing and tinting. Knowing what a difference good brows can make and to now have my own set of perfect brows? Ummm yes please!

Day of:

I filled my brows in to make sure Jordana knew the shape I liked. I also brought some pictures of the look I was hoping to achieve. My brows were slightly uneven, I had a a section in middle of my left brow that stopped growing after a cut I had in past healed and hair never grew again. I was also wanting a little more thickness. Jordana was extremely confident and put me at ease right away that she obviously knew what she was doing. She has an adorable apartment and her table and supplies were set up and ready to go. A topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and during your procedure. I would be lying if I said the first procedure didn't hurt. It was manageable pain though. (definitely said few curse words in my head)

Going during your menstrual cycle can increase the pain. So keep that in mind when booking :) Everyone has a different pain threshold and comfort level is different for everyone. She first measured and drew in brows to make sure perfectly even. Then she micro bladed away! 1.5 H later I was done.

First Few Days:

When I got home and looked in mirror. I was a little shocked how dark and big they seemed. Right off the bat I felt a little like Burt from sesame street. LOL Luckily I had educated myself before hand of the entire process so I knew that they would fade and that initially they would be slightly red from the process. Looking back at pics I actually think they looked great, I think just wasn't used to thicker and darker brows on myself.

Once the red calmed down and I put makeup on they didn't stand out so much and was ready to rock them for a girls night 2 days later! I am third girl from left with the top Knot. :)

After Care:

Im going to copy and paste this straight out of Jordanas FAQ sheet she sends you prior to your appointment.

"Do Nothing" healing method and it makes it easier for everyone! We recommend washing the tattooed area GENTLY 2-3 times a day with lukewarm water and a disposable paper towel or cotton round. Pat it dry and keep it out of the sun throughout the healing process. Do not apply any cosmetics in this area for AT LEAST 10-14 days. Just keep the area clean and let it breathe! If your skin starts to feel tight and dry around

the fourth or fifth day, you may then use a SMALL amount of plain, fragrance-free lotion or moisturizer IF NEEDED. If you DO need to moisturize, please do so sparingly. That's it! :)

Round 2:

Do not be alarmed if after the healing process your eyebrows have almost completely faded. This is normal and the colour will come back. It take 6-8 weeks to heal and then you can book your second appointment. I was even more nervous round 2 because I heard it could be a little more painful. I had the exact opposite experience. I barely felt it this time! It was basically pain free! Other than a few awkward days when my brows were flaking, this process has been a breeze.

I am beyond thrilled with the results and am completely hooked! Thank you Jordana! If you are considering it, do your research to make sure you are going to someone who is certified, who is confident and make sure they are working in a clean environment. Its initially an investment anywhere from $350-$500 in the lower mainland. But worth it to spend more and go to someone reputable. See Jordanas work here

Would you every try microblading? Have you already had it done? Let me know in the comments!
